OUR STORY
In the Gannon family, which launched officially when Amy and Mike married in 1997, each member played a unique and vital role. Mike was the family’s travel planner, designing far-flung adventures that catered to each person’s tastes. Amy was the family’s conscience, bringing home stories and lessons from the equity-based entrepreneurial work that made her a local legend. Aaron, the oldest of the two Gannon kids, played high school baseball and golf, and launched a drop-ship internet business, following in his mother’s entrepreneurial footsteps. And Jocelyn, the youngest, used her sharp eye to photograph the family’s adventures, and kept them all rapt during her high-level gymnastics competitions.
During their years as a tight-knit foursome, the family traveled far and wide to Switzerland, Scotland, Norway, and Italy, and returned full of stories about their adventures climbing mountains and crossing glaciers and visiting landmarks together, their cameras filled with photos and their spirits replenished by time spent together.
During their last trip together, On December 26, 2019, Amy and Jocelyn were killed in a helicopter crash on the island of Kauai in Hawaii. Mike and Aaron, who were waiting on the ground for Amy and Jocelyn’s return, recognized even amid their grief that it was their responsibility to pursue the passions that made Amy and Jocelyn who they were, to continue Amy’s important economic justice work and share Jocelyn’s devotion to photography and gymnastics.
It is with Amy and Jocelyn in their minds and hearts that they founded the Amy and Jocelyn Gannon Foundation, to focus on supporting women entrepreneurs and talented young artists and athletes in developing their skills and pursuing their goals despite economic and social inequities.
